PLEASE READ BEFORE USING ANY OF OUR CONTENT FOR BROADCAST OR WEB USE. Be Connected features and programs are free to any public radio or noncommercial radio station for unlimited use unless otherwise noted. However, please contact us and let us know who you are prior to broadcast so we can give accurate carriage reports to the CPB. Excerpting is permitted, but please air the funding credits that are included with features. FYI: These MP3 files are of the highest quality possible, so that they are perfectly suited to broadcast. If you need to convert them to WAV files and your digital editor or automation system cannot do that, Winamp has the built-in capability to do the job. You have to select the "Disk Writer" output plug-in under "Preferences" within Winamp. When you hit play, a WAV file will be created from the MP3 file. (This setting will remain in place until you switch back to the "waveOut" plug-in.)
Another option for converting MP3s, is a free program called Audacity. It can not only import and export MP3 files in your choice of formats, but it's also a basic multitrack editor. Audacity works well on Macintosh, Windows, Linux and Free BSD. Are MP3's really "Broadcast Quality"? They certainly are. Don't confuse the files on this site with poorly recorded "free music." These files are encoded at 320 kbits/sec, more than double the standard bitrate. However, because of the higher bitrate, it may take longer to download and save them. We don't recommend downloading them on a dial-up connection without the use of Getright or another program that restarts interrupted downloads. Linking to this site is highly encouraged. It is okay to link an audio feature or program directly from your station's homepage, as long as credit and a hyperlink is given to this site. Since most of the pictures on this website were taken by someone "in house", using these images to spruce up your homepage is usually acceptable, but please ask first, because we may not have the copyright to every image. |
